Gujranwala Cantonment (Urdu: گوجرانولہ کنٹونمنٹ) is a cantonment adjacent to Gujranwala in Punjab province, Pakistan. Gujranwala Cantonment has security checkpoints and barbed wire surrounding the cantonment.
Gujranwala Cantt was established in 1967 comprising an area of 21120 acres and declared as Class-III. Later on, it was upgraded from Class-III to Class-II in 1983 (population exceeded 50,000 souls) and subsequently further upgraded as Class-I in 2006 (population exceeded to 100,000 souls). Now population as per census 2017 is 137,302 souls. It is one of the most beautiful, well organized and planned cantonment of Pakistan. All areas inside Garrison are well developed. However, old abadies (villages) which exist prior to establishment of Cantonment, are still under development stage.
Military Lands and Cantonments Department is looking after the local governments in 44 Cantonments through Cantonment Boards and managing the defence lands all across the country through 11 Military Estate Circles. It is an attached department of the Ministry of Defence.
Directorate of Military Lands and Cantonments provides advisory input on defence lands and local government matters in cantonments to the Federal Government (Ministry of Defence) and all related stakeholders i.e. Service Headquarters and other organizations under Ministry of Defence.
